Di Grassi Wins Second Formula E Race
“It was carnage! But cool carnage! It’s a series that people should watch because it’s fantastic racing, it’s unreal!” These words by last year’s winner and this year’s runner-up, Sam Bird, sum up the second Formula E race held on November 7 in Putrajaya, Malaysia. Indeed, this tumultuous race provided high-caliber entertainment for the tens of thousands of spectators along the course and millions more on TV and social media.
From start to finish, fans were treated to spectacular last-minute malfunctions causing major upsets, superb pit crew performances saving the day, and plenty of slick maneuvers in tight turns as well as numerous crashes like the one that left the Dutchman Robin Frijns hobbling across the finish line with a damaged suspension and off-kilter steering to a lucky third place, all while Lucas di Grassi cashed in on Nicolas Proust’s battery issues and coolly collected the win!
His teammate and Warsteiner brand ambassador, Daniel Abt, secured a very respectable 7th place and valuable team points, which put Di Grassi and the Warsteiner-sponsored,Abt Schaeffler Audi Sport team in first place in both the driver and team standings. Eager to defend their lead in this young Formula E season, di Grassi, Abt and the entire Abt Schaeffler Audi Sport team look forward to the next race on December 19 in the gorgeous beachside setting of Punta del Este, Uruguay. But first the teams are enjoying a well-deserved break to reboot after this roller-coaster race and iron-out the tech wrinkles that derailed some drivers’ dreams of winning. Until next time, Cheers Warsteiner!
