Buemi Wins ePrix Berlin, Shares Podium with Abt and Di Grassi
What a nail biter of a race! Brilliant maneuvering, pitch-perfect pit crew performances and a driver duel that made your heart skip a beat, the ePrix Berlin will go down in racing history as a spectacular success that electrified the German capital. As the only German entry, our Warsteiner-sponsored ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport Team brought the enthusiastic, sold-out Berlin crowd to its feet while millions of fans followed the action live on TV and social media. Saddled with an unfortunate starting position, Lucas di Grassi clawed his way back to the leader pack, while his teammate, and our Warsteiner brand ambassador, Daniel Abt enjoyed the ride of his life in front of his home crowd that kept cheering him on with standing ovations.
Already on Thursday prior to the race, Abt enjoyed some wonderful Berlin loving when he drove his race car with a police escort through the German capital: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icP4bT2-WuM “That was unbelievable! I won’t ever forget this ride through Berlin. The people were fantastic along the street,” recalls Abt, who also was a fan favorite in the eVillage.
But in the end, the Swiss driver Sébastien Buemi claimed victory in this Berlin ePrix, while Daniel Abt and Lucas di Grassi shared the podium with exhilarating second and third place finishes. Buemi’s win puts him within one point of the championship leader Lucas di Grassi. In the team standing, however, Buemi’s Renault e.Dams team is a mere eleven points ahead of the ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport crew.
In short, the Berlin race left both the individual and team championships still up for grabs with only two races left in the season.
Now all eyes turn to London, where the 2015/16 FIA Formula E Championship will be decided in a double header on July 2 and 3. “It couldn’t be closer than this going into London. Now everything is open. London, and London weather, will decide how the championship goes,” summarizes Di Grassi.
Racing fans, mark your calendar, it’s London calling!
But regardless how the dice may fall on that first weekend in July, the ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport Team already has some fantastic news to share: Both drivers, Lucas di Grassi and Daniel Abt, signed on again for the 2016/17 season which starts on October 9 in Hong Kong.
