WarsteinAIR Scores Big at the 3rd European Hot Air Airship Championship 2016
Amidst the spectacular scenery of the Tegernsee valley with its majestic snow-covered Alpine backdrop and picturesque lake, the 3rd FIA European Hot Air Airship Championship 2016 took place from February 24-29 in the Bavarian town of Kreuth. After a 25 year hiatus, this well-organized contest saw the best European airship pilots tenaciously battle for first place while scores of spectators watched in awe as these gravity-defying behemoths floated across the crisp blue winter sky.
The Warsteiner Brewery was well represented with its eye-catching golden yellow vessel aptly called WarsteinAIR: “Hobby” pilot Andreas Pohl and co-pilot Torsten Sprenger together with their phenomenal ground crew consisting of Adolf Drexler, Jörg Mieth, and Michael Schöne secured a fantastic fourth place behind three professional teams. Congratulations for a job well done!
For Warsteiner, the hot air balloon and airship sport is a passion that dates back to the 1980s when the first Warsteiner Montgolfiade was organized by our late senior CEO Albert Cramer.
While we are now busy preparing for the next Montgolfiade scheduled for September 2016 in Warstein, let us share with you some sweet moments from last year’s balloon festival which featured over 800 balloon starts, a total of eight mass ascensions as well as the fantastic night glow spectacles which transform the evening sky into a magical wonderland that brings a smile to everyone’s face.
