Lucas di Grassi scores second place in suspenseful race in Beijing
Just eleven seconds separated Brazilian driver Lucas di Grassi from repeating last year’s electrifying Formula E success in Beijing, but his Swiss rival Sébastien Buemi starting from the pole position proved to have the winning edge this time. With the second season just underway, and the teams still tweaking their cars with their new powertrains, the Warsteiner sponsored Audi Schaeffler ABT team is nevertheless all pumped about its nice haul of 18 points in both the driver and team standings after battling for every meter until the last round. Although di Grassi’s teammate, Daniel Abt, incurred an unfortunate time penalty that got him out of the points, the Brazilian summed up the race: “I think we’ve started the season in good shape!“
Indeed, the kick-off of the second Formula E season provided great entertainment for the thousands of fans along the iconic race course at the Olympic Park and around the Bird’s Nest stadium in Beijing – among them some Warsteiner VIP ticket holders who cherished the opportunity to watch the race up close.
Underscoring its appeal to a new generation of racing fans embracing the cutting-edge technology and future-oriented sustainability of these spectacular cars, millions more followed the event on TV and social media. Rumors have it that Daniel Abt’s new black and gold Warsteiner helmet was deemed the sexiest.
But after the race is before the race, and with the second contest just around the corner on November 7 in Putrajaya, Malaysia, the teams’ technicians are busy fine-tuning the engines, trying to squeeze just a bit more performance out of them.
