Formula E: An Electrifying Third Place in Miami
Brilliant blue sky, white sandy beaches, boulevards lined with palm trees and a stunning skyline as backdrop – the fifth leg of the Formula E Championship took place for the first time on American soil in sunny Miami, where our Warsteiner-sponsored ABT Audi Sport Formula E team made quite a splash with an exhilarating third place finish by the young Daniel Abt.
The buzz surrounding the successful ABT Audi Sport team revved up a couple of days earlier with an epic Electric Thursday Party powered by Warsteiner. Held at the supercool MAPS Backlot, an outdoor professional photo studio and event space located in the trendy Wynwood Art District, Miami‘s creative hub for artists and gallerists from around the world, the party hit maximum speed in no time thanks to the electrifying tunes spun by DJ Jessica Who and illuminated with mouth-watering pyramids of Warsteiner bottles. The celebrated graffiti artist QUAKE created spectacular scenery: During a live happening, the No. 1 ranked driver, Lucas di Grassi and his teammate and Warsteiner brand ambassador, Daniel Abt, sprayed their names across a wall created by the graffiti artist. Already on Wednesday, Abt tweeted with fans about the upcoming race during a twitter Q&A session. The party included enthusiastic racing fans, other drivers and managers of the close-knit Formula E family as well as members of the press, blogger artists and friends of Warsteiner. Between chatting, taking selfies and enjoying a few cold Warsteiners, the crowd had a blast.
The race on Saturday saw a dramatic pursuit by the American Scott Speed to bring home a US victory. Though a clean race without crashes or rounds of caution cars, the street track with its sharp corners proved to be tricky terrain, and the wildly cheering fans along the course were treated to a surprisingly fluid interchange of sleek cars weaving their way towards the front. When the checkered flag dropped, less than half a second separated the American from the winner, the French driver Nicolas Proust. The third man on the podium was Daniel Abt, adding precious championship points to ABT Audi Sport team, now in second place in the team ranking. With the season still wide open, the next race is scheduled for April 4, 2015, in Long Beach, California.
