2013 BLOOOM Award – These are the winners!!
Germany - The applause was well deserved as Igor Simic walked up to the stage to receive the 2013 BLOOOM Award by WARSTEINER from our patron, Catharina Cramer, on Wednesday, October30 in Cologne!
The Serbian artist impressed the jury with his extraordinary video creation “The Thinker in the Supermarket“, which was also recognized as the “Official Selection“ of the 2013 Edinburgh Film Festival. As the 2013 winner of the BLOOOM Award by Warsteiner, Igor Simic, is eagerly anticipating a one-year mentoring support by one of the jury members and a trip to Art Basel Miami Beach.
Second place went to Alexander Becherer from Germany, whose fascinating, apocalyptic installation “Paratropolis” won him a trip for two to the Art Paris as well as an exhibit in a German gallery.
Our third place winner, Roman Schoonbrood from Belgium, will enjoy a one-day coaching session from a jury member for his creation “My Worthless Life.”
Moderated by Patrice Bouédibéla, the award ceremony took place amidst the special exhibit of the 10 finalists’ works and drew a full capacity crowd of media representatives and art enthusiasts!
For the past four years, the call has gone out for young emerging artists to enter their work for the BLOOOM Award by Warsteiner. Opened this year to a worldwide audience, an astonishing 1,125 entries from 55 nations were submitted. The fantastic quality of the entries is a direct reflection of the award’s rising prestige and growing global appeal. The BLOOOM Award also serves as a stepping stone for young artists. For instance, the 2012 winner, Johanna Flammer, had her first solo show during ART.FAIR 2013!
The high quality of the works submitted this year presented quite a challenge for the international jury, composed of the BLOOOM Award by Warsteiner patron and managing partner of the Warsteiner Group, Catharina Cramer, the art director of the ART.FAIR and BLOOOM, Walter Gehlen, the gallerist and journalist, Yasha Young, the photographer and gallerist, Oliver Rath, and the artist, Stefan Strumbel, who together took on the Herculean task to select this year’s winners from a plethora of phenomenal works spanning all genres.
