KLM Open 2013
Last weekend, the KLM Open, the premier golf tournament in the Netherlands, swung into action at the spectacular Kennemer Golf and Country Club in Zandvoort near Amsterdam.
From September 12 – 15, top players of the golf world battled for the trophy amidst challenging weather conditions. Yet blustery crosswinds and heavy rain showers could not dampen the enthusiasm of more than 40,000 visitors along the course, with millions more watching on TV or following the events via social media. It was a nail-biter for Dutch fans as local favorite, Joost Luiten, moved to the top of the leaderboard on day three of the tournament. The next day proved to be historic for Dutch golf, when Luiten kept his cool in the sudden death play-off with Miguel Angel Jiménez, beating the Spaniard and winning the KLM Open with a par on the first extra hole.
The tournament was also a great success for the Warsteiner brand. As the Official Beer of the European Tour, the main bar featured our refreshing Warsteiner Premium Verum on tap, stylishly presented in our limited edition, tournament exclusive, iconic tulip glass, while the award-winning Warsteiner Radler was aptly served from a special golf buggy and tricycle.
Spectators had a blast with Warsteiner´s fun swing analysis–after teeing off, fans received a flip book that by quickly scrolling through the pages allowed them to get a good look at their swing in an animated format. Additionally, Warsteiner sponsored the 11th hole with a two-tiered lounge platform providing a fabulous overview of the green on the 18th hole where fans welcomed the opportunity to cheer on their heroes and raise a glass of Warsteiner to the winner!
